There were two problems here, one perhaps worse than the other. First, many pilots have a tendency to fight for the soft touchdown and in the heat of the moment lose sight of the object: getting the airplane on the ground. As runway slips by and airspeed erodes, the deck angle required to touchdown in a controlled manner goes up. As that happens, the likelihood of the desired soft touchdown goes down. Secondly, and I think even more seriously dangerous, reacting to a failed result in anger turned a bad landing into one that damaged the aircraft.
