AFM Procedure

Possible Cause

  • Flap position asymmetry detected between position sensors.

Flap Asymmetry (caution)

System Impacts

  • Flap Movement: Unavailable.

  • Landing Distance: Increased.

Corrective Action

    CAUTION

    DO NOT ATTEMPT FURTHER MOVEMENT OF FLAPS.

  1. Airspeed . . . Reduce

  2. ROLL TRIM . . . Neutralize roll forces

  3. If unable to neutralize roll trim:

    1. Airspeed . . . Reduce towards VREF

  4. If flap asymmetry occurs with flap position greater than 20°:

    1. Airplane . . . Land within approximately 30 minutes

    2. According to the engineer who wrote this, the threat is that the airloads on the flaps can push them in (retract) which could exacerbate roll tendencies.
