AFM Procedure

[AFM, §03-13-90]

Corrective Action

  1. Flight. . . Continue (using rudder trim)
  2. NOTE

    If rudder pedals have jammed at or near full deflection, there will be insufficient rudder trim to completely neutralize the rudder which will result in an unbalanced flight condition for approach and landing.

    Yaw Damper and Turn Coordination will remain functional, however performance will be degraded.

    Flight and landing considerations should include a VFR approach, bank angles less than 30°, and landing crosswinds below 10 knots.

  3. Airplane . . . Land as soon as practicable
  4. CAUTION

    FAILURE TO DISABLE PEDAL STEERING CAN RESULT IN NOSEWHEEL STEERING COMMANDS TO MATCH RUDDER PEDAL DEFLECTION DURING LANDING ROLLOUT AND COMPROMISE DIRECTIONAL CONTROL.

  5. PEDAL STEERING OFF
  6. CAUTION

    USE CAUTION DURING GUSTY OR CROSSWIND CONDITIONS DUE TO DECREASED RUDDER MOVEMENT RATE WITH TRIM CONTROL INPUTS.

  7. Landing Controllability Check Perform
  8. a. Refer to 03-13-10, Landing Controllability Check.

  9. Approach

    1. Landing Runway . . . Select runway based on minimum crosswind (less than 10 knots) from direction opposite displaced pedal

    2. NOTE

      Landing distance should be based on VREF +10 KCAS to touchdown.

    3. Landing Distance . . . Calculate

    4. Airspeed . . . Maintain VREF +10 KCAS to touchdown

    5. Runway Alignment . . . Use differential thrust (if required)

  10. Landing

  11. CAUTION

    USE CAUTION DURING FLARE, OR IN GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS, DUE TO DECREASED FLIGHT CONTROL AUTHORITY.

    1. Touchdown . . . On side of runway opposite displaced pedal

    2. Landing Flare . . . Minimize / Maintain throttle positions

    3. Nosewheel . . . Lower to runway immediately

    4. Throttles . . . IDLE (after nosewheel on ground)

    5. Directional Control after Touchdown . . . Maintain with Differential Braking

    6. T/Rs . . . Minimize use above idle
