Engine Fire In Flight

AFM Procedure

Possible Cause

The engine fire loop senses fire in Zone 1 of the engine.

Corrective Action

  1. Affected Engine . . . Confirm

  2. WARNING

    REDUCE AFFECTED ENGINE TO IDLE IMMEDIATELY.

  3. POWER LEVER (Affected Engine) . . . IDLE

  4. If fire indications are no longer present after 10 seconds:

    1. POWER LEVER (Affected Engine) . . . Leave at IDLE

    2. ENG BLEED AIR (Affected Engine) . . . OFF

    3. Airplane . . . Land at nearest suitable airport

    4. Procedure . . . Complete

  5. If fire indications remain:

    1. FUEL CONTROL (Affected Engine) . . . OFF

    2. FIRE Handle (Affected Engine) . . . Pull

    3. FIRE Handle (Affected Engine) . . . Rotate to DISCH 1

  6. If fire indications are no longer present:

    1. Go to Step 8.

  7. If fire indications remain 30 seconds after fire bottle discharge:

    1. FIRE Handle (Affected Engine) . . . Rotate to DISCH 2

  8. If fire indications remain:

    1. Airplane . . . Land as soon as possible

  9. If fire indications are no longer present:

    1. NOTE

      The Engine Fire Protection loop are continually monitored by the DCN. Performing a fire test in flight or during a fire procedure is not required.

    2. Airspeed . . . 285 KCAS / 0.90M maximum

    3. Airplane . . . Land at nearest suitable airport

    4. WARNING

      ENGINE MUST NOT BE RESTARTED AFTER A FIRE WARNING AND THE FIRE HANDLE MUST NOT BE RESET.

    5. ENG BLEED AIR (Affected Engine) . . . OFF

    6. Isolation Valve. . . Open (Depressed)

    7. TCAS . . . TA ONLY

    8. WAI . . . Deselect Auto

    9. Fuel Balance . . . Monitor and Maintain

    10. (1) Refer to 02-08-60, Fuel Balancing in Flight.

  10. If the APU is to be used as an alternate source of electric power:

    1. Refer to 03-03-10, APU Inflight Operation - Alternate Electrical Power Source.

  11. If performing one engine inoperative landing:

    1. Refer to 04-08-30, One Engine Inoperative Landing Procedure.
